Reservation System Servers
Introduction
The diagram illustrates the basic internet. When your reservation system is implement the programming
to do this is contained in the server.
The server interfaces directly to the Internet.
The airline's and customer terminals are also connected to the internet. The airline/customer terminals
can be located anywhere in the world. In addition, the airline terminals that
are local to the server are connected via a local area network.
The internet server contains eTARS, the airline application programs.
The airline/customer terminal programming is provide by an internet browser, which is
contained in the Personal Computer when it is purchased. No additional programming
is required in the terminals. Once connected to the Internet the airline/customer terminals
are instantly installed and working.
The connection between the airline/customer terminals and the server is provided by the Internet.
You have two choices in the implementation of your server and it deals with where
the server is placed and who owns and maintains it. The choices are:
- At our location. The internet server is dedicated to only your
airline. The internet server is owned and maintained by
Flight Data Management, Inc. This option eliminates the need
for your ID department to install and maintain your server.
- At your facility and it is owned and maintained by you.
This option requires your IT department to install the server.
Flight Data Management will install and maintain eTARS on
your server.
At Our Location
We provide a dedicated server located at our facility that will handle
2,500 reservations per day for US$250.00 per month. If you airline exceeds
this number of reservations we will provide a configuration and cost for
you.We have tested eTARS, in conjunction with IBM, at 3,000 transactions
per second.
We can provide optionally a mirror
backup server for an additional US$350.00 per month. This backup server
is located in a second facility, on a separate electrical power grid
and separate connections to the Internet. This mirror backup can
be a server provided by you at your location. In this case there
is no cost to your airline.
With a mirror server if the main server goes down the switching
to the mirror server takes less than 5 minuets. Since the databases
are mirrored not data is lost.
Our dedicated servers are connected to the Internet so there are
no network connection or monthly charges.
Our facilities where our dedicated servers are located have the
following characteristics:
- No installation/start-up/discontinue/maintenance fees
- Secure Facilities
- Two separate external power grids
- Auxiliary Power Generator
- Connection to the Internet with +150MB bandwidth
- Connections to Internet with three separate Internet backbone
providers: qwe.net, bro.net and pbi2.net
- 365/24/7 available support
- Upgrade to large size server. There is no upgrade or installation
charges but the airline will be responsible for the cost of the additional hardware.
- System back-ups each 12 hours, with cargo data backup each two hours.
We install depending on the size of the server installed.
Hardware:
- Dell Server(s)
IBM Risc/6000(s)
Programming
- Redhat Linux Server/AIX
- Apache
- Tom Cat
- mySQL - can be any relational ANSI SQL database.
- eTARS
There is no charge for the basic system programming, if AIX is
required you will have to purchase the license from IBM. If you
want any other database than mySQL, you will have to purchase the
license for its usage.
At your request we will supply you with a list of customers that
presently utilize our dedicated servers.
At Your Location
We will work with your IT department on the needed configuration, the
applications that must be installed and the needed connection to the Internet.
Your IT department must install and maintain the server, Internet connection and required system
programs. We will install and maintain the eTARS applications.
